RELATIONS

An attacking opening batsman, Sushil Nadkarni emerged as one of India's most promising young players in the mid 1990s, and in the 1994-95 Under-19 season he made three hundreds and three fifties in eight innings and averaged 99.00, winning him a place on the U-19 tour of Australia the following winter. He played two Tests, scoring 120 runs at 30.00, and the following season played six times for Maharashtra. But he was unable to secure a regular place, and after gaining good results in engineering exams, he emigrated to the USA.

He continued to play cricket in Texas - even flying to play for other clubs when his own (Cavaliers CC) had no game - and won a reputation as a prolific batsman. In the 2005 Interstate tournament he scored 171 and followed the next day with 214, winning the Most Valuable Player award. That he has been repeatedly overlooked for the national team, especially given his age and experience, remains a mystery.
